EHT continuing to drive growth at John Lewis
Electricals produce double-digit rises in-store and online
Electricals & Home Technology goods continued to drive sales at John Lewis ahead of the market during the week to 16 June, with an increase of 34% over the same period last year. Overall sales at the department store chain rose 11.5% to £63.58 million, despite “ever-challenging” weather conditions.
The retailer reported “an almost clean sweep” of double-figure increases across the EHT directorate, the top three being Telecoms at 287.4% up, CE Accessories with a rise of 59.0% and Vision, still performing well, at 30.1% up.
At store level, “more than half our branches saw increases on last year,” commented David Barford, Director for Selling Operations. “Topping the table with double figures were Poole at +29.3%, Croydon at +22.1%, Tunbridge Wells at +20.3% and Knight & Lee with + 11.6%.”
Johnlewis.com achieved an uplift of 38.4% on the prior year, with strong performances all round, but it was sales of Electricals & Home Technology goods that led the revenue gains, with a rise of 58.1%.
